Chain Wax Application Guidelines

1. Chain Preparation

Proper chain preparation is essential for achieving the best performance from wax lubrication.

Wax can be applied to both a brand-new chain and a previously used chain. Before the first application, the chain must be thoroughly cleaned and completely degreased.

There are several ways to clean the chain, such as using a dedicated chain cleaning device or cleaning it manually in separate containers using gasoline followed by alcohol. Regardless of the method used, the key requirement is achieving a perfectly clean and grease-free surface.

Wax does not bond effectively to oily or contaminated surfaces. Do not rush the preparation process — chain cleanliness is the foundation of successful waxing. If you are not completely confident that the chain is fully clean, repeat the cleaning procedure.

A properly prepared chain ensures maximum wax adhesion and long-lasting drivetrain performance.

2. Wax Application

For best results, apply and store the wax at temperatures above +8°C. Riding with a wax-lubricated chain is also possible at lower temperatures.

• Before application, wipe the chain installed on the bicycle with a clean cloth.

• Apply wax to the upper side of the chain, ensuring the wax reaches all critical moving interfaces between the links.

• For optimal performance, allow the wax to dry completely before riding.

• Minimum recommended drying time: 3 hours

• Recommended drying time for best performance: approximately 12 hours

• The drier the wax becomes before use, the less dirt and contamination will adhere to the drivetrain during riding.

• A clean waxed chain delivers lower friction, reduced wear, improved cleanliness, and a longer drivetrain service life.

Practical Recommendations

Reapply wax at least every 300 km under normal riding conditions.
In harsh conditions such as mud, rain, sand, snow, or freezing temperatures, reapply wax more frequently.
More frequent waxing significantly increases drivetrain and chain lifespan.
We recommend waxing the chain immediately after a ride rather than before riding. This allows sufficient drying time and delivers maximum performance during the next ride.
